Mindgames: Supporting Mental Health and Skills Development Through an Introduction to Video Games Design
Through a video games designer-led structured programme (lasting 22 weeks), supported by a Mental Health Practitioner and Creative Producer, young people between the ages of 18-30 who are unable to enter/re-enter employment, due to their mental health, will receive mental health support while learning skills in coding/games design, soft skills and gain confidence through developing their own prototype video game. The new programme will work exclusively with young people on long-term sick (due to mental health). With no need to commit to the full 22 week programme, participants can drop in and out off sessions. Key Outcomes:
Supports soft skills development: teamworking, creativity, problem solving, planning etc.
Work preparedness: through the lens of the gaming industry, participants will understand the workplace while building aspirations
Mental health support: through improved mental health (including self-management techniques) participants will be better equipped to enter the labour market.
